THERE IS TALKING GREEN AND THEN THERE IS WALKING GREEN

Green relationshipsAn attitude of green is the commitment to practice listening to what is meaningful inside and the willingness to hear others before drawing conclusions. Green isn’t one side trumps the other..   Green is inclusive, it isn’t exclusive.  It holds everyone and everything equally.   Our values are not in conflict, our solutions are in conflict.

Green meets humanities needs. It is a space within that connects us to the value of life and the willingness for balance in giving back so everyone and everything thrive’s.  It is a natural cycle of giving and receiving that turns as the turning of night and day.  Imagine the moon and sun falling out of balance with one becoming dominate and one lesser than.

It requires tolerance and balanced lifestyles to increase mindfulness and patience to make better choices and find ways to resolve differences.  Some ways to consider achieving effective day to day balance and enrich life for those times that seem helpless follow:

Setting intentions for next year!

Three points for success with setting your goals and keeping them:

  • include a balanced view of all your life areas while setting your goals:  heath, wealth, fame, love, creative, future, community, career, personal development, ecology
  • connect to the roots of your desire for a meaningful incentive to stick to them
  • create an environment for success

Balance between

mind (solving puzzles) &

mindfulness (spaciousness)

Maze Labyrinth Hearts

A maze is a puzzle and can be confusing. It reflects challenge and requires mind solving focus versus mindfulness! Have you considered how mindfulness supports and balances mind solving skills? Too much challenge can create limited focus and panic. A pathway that leads to mindfulness creates open space for increased brain power for meeting and navigating challenges!

Communication & Movement for Mindful Awareness for Adults

4 Personal Commitments for effective ‘Green Communication’

1.  Self Reflection:

  • identifying felt sensory awareness (sensing, feeling, emotions)  while noticing thoughts, opinions, believes and interpretations and letting them go

 2.  Speaking honestly:

  • about how you are affected and not what you think

 3.  Willingness to set aside differences:

  • hearing how others are affected  (conflict is at the level of  belief, thoughts, opinions and personal interpretations)

4.  Identifying and connecting to values before solutions:

  • After first three steps, then and only then,  develop solutions based on every-ones input and ideas.

The 4 Commitments of Green Movement

The goal in this style of movement is spontaneity.  This is achieved through these four commitments.

1.  Commitment to Stop and Check in

Commitment to slow down and stop

2.  Transition from thinking to sensing

Mindful focus on  your inner sensations from the inside out

3.  Exploring with curiosity

Curiously explore your movement actions and reactions

4.  Practice to integrate

This movement is a system that increases inner wisdom of all aspects of self.  It is not a first aid nor a philosophical path.  It is reuniting of whole movement interrupted through the generalized and institutionalized educational system.

Movement Options:

SOMATIC MOVEMENT

CONTEMPLATIVE MINDFUL MOVEMENT

  •  Labyrinth’s  – pathway in to heart center connection and back out

Waking up to one’s attitudes of consciousness

For the purposes of learning about one’s inner consciousness,  let’s say there are two types of consciousness.  One is an automatic and  habitual experience,  acted out regardless of consequences and without any thought to it.  This is a closed state without choice that lacks understanding.   Generally,  it is  a reaction to something that is not happening and is not reality.  It is a perspective based upon the past or future and not the present moment.   The second is a focused awareness of attention for understanding reactions  before taking them.  This is an open state of choice, acceptance and the point of shifting and making change.  It is a response to what is real in the moment.  An example as follows:

Attitude of:

2014-05-26 18.48.03

Attitude of Scarcity Effects:

Some Inner Thoughts:

  • There is never enough ……….
  • I am going to lose ……………..
  • I am not going to be able…………
  • I’ve  never had…………………..
  • Will there be enough when ……………….
  • They have more………..
  • Mine is not ………………..

Feelings:  Fear, Anxious, Terrified, Despondent, Hopeless(ness), Frustrated, Angry, Tense, Shaky, Panicky

Some Mental & Emotions Reactions:

  • Hoarding (resources, finances, properties, objects, friends, lovers)
  • Compromise (nature, resources, sustainability, family, relationships, friendships, employment, one’s own values)
  • Hopelessness (wanting to die, not wanting to go on)
  • Aggressiveness (acquiring at all costs)
  • Control (working out, diet, environment, hierarchical position of authority)
  • Lack of Control (letting circumstances happen without taking any action of responsibility)

Some Physical Reactions:  Stress, Tension, Anxiety, Holding, Clenching, Shallow Breathing, Locked eye movement, loose of flexible movement and balance

As children scarcity is an unconscious learned attitude of  behavior much like eating, rolling over, sitting, crawling, standing and walking.  The difference is that it has been learned through the modeling of those around us while learning  functional movement is an inner resource of somatic awareness and experiencing.

Learning skills to transition this attitude into one of abundance  is more than a possibility.  It is a reality and begins with becoming aware of one’s habitual behavior responses.  This can be learned through  combining the mental and emotional with getting InTouch Talk or through physical movement with getting InTouch Movement.  These are easy integrative learning methods.     It supports your contemplative practices or can be supported by adding contemplative  practices to be able to cut the distraction.

FAQ – Who would come to Inside Awareness?

 This is a great question:

  • The focus of Inside Awareness is on learning to increase the quality of life experiences beginning inside and expanding out.  Much like a drop water expands equally out on all sides.   The learning practice is based upon the four aspects of self; physical, emotional, mental and beliefs which are easily translated into focused areas of personal  and relationship development.
  • Inside Awareness programs have been designed for early childhood to end of life, (and all stages in between!)  Patterns of movement, habitual behavior and language, and lifestyles are a thread through life and are unconscious actions and reactions until a focus of attention is placed on them specifically.  Learning with Inside  is designed for developing this skill so something new can happen! This is to learn  moving beyond conflict, pain and struggle with more awareness and ease into a space of deeper connection inside and outside.

Therefore adults, parents, children, educators, employees and employers would benefit with these learning and coaching programs.

Exploring without rules is learning!

Being HumanA few hardcore Feldenkrais®  students came to join in one evening of Conscious Movement through Dance.   As the circle began sharing it was explained that the evening wasn’t a Feldenkrais®  focused event for their benefit.  They chose to stay and take part in a movement with the intention to connect conscious awareness and action in a dance pattern.   This concept had been explored with the other participants for a several nights before.  This evenings focus was putting patterns of isolated movements into a bigger flow of  patterns to experience.

As the larger focused movement pattern was taken up off the floor into big movements  a smile crossed their faces.  They mentioned that they had never taken their Feldenkrais®  lessons off the floor, therefore never experienced them in an upright action!  Beautiful moment that encouraged the remaining group members to smile.

Exploring without rules is learning!

Many thanks to the Church of Truth in James Bay for their support in hosting this wonderful series and letting us play with Conscious Movement in Dance!

“The spoken word”

Balance - Spoken WordRecently when describing how contemplation can be an outcome when using a precise formula of spoken words,  a colleague mentioned a verse in the bible as follows:

John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

  • King James Bible “Authorized Version”, Cambridge Edition

What a wonderful insight and comparison!

The quote I have connected to in the past as describing this experience comes from Rumi:

“Out beyond right doing and wrong doing there is a field.  I will meet you there.”

Here are a few more lines in this chapter that continue to describe an experience of connection that may happen between two people speaking with honesty and listening with empathy.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

How can one balance aspects of self?

Medicine wheel2Recently I enjoyed viewing a “Coles Notes” explanation of the a Medicine Wheel from a fellow Canadian in Alberta.  This Elder was connecting with a troubled youth through the act of  walking.  There was not a direct focus on any issues.  I observed through their discussion that the Elder was very aware of this youth and their needs through their behavior and unspoken expression.  Rather than being direct and  telling the youth anything, it was through guidance and modelling. The Elder began sharing the concept of  the Medicine Wheel and encouraged the youth  to walk, enter and stop in the center.  The  explanation of the Medicine Wheel was subtle and included the four directions, north, south, east and west.  There was also mention of the balance of the four aspects of self for connecting to ones center.

Viewing this was a revelation and it was exciting to recognize the similarities to the core principles in the integrative centering and wellness tools offered in the getting InTouch programs at Inside.  These include levels of experiencing integration from the outside in.  These include

  • guidance versus telling,
  • mentoring versus teaching,
  • modeling versus telling and not walking it oneself in reality,
  • experiencing patterns versus fixing it.

The wellness tools are for creating an open learning mindfulness versus a closed mind that knows everything.  The difference:

Becoming comfortable within oneself leads to acceptance and expansion beyond experiences into deeper relationships.

Staying in the discomfort of always knowing the answer, in fear of feeling, leads to a *struggle.  Being right creates disconnection from all things.

*The struggle is keeping the walls of power up that come from being right.

One way to experience balancing aspects of self with Inside is through sharing a Labyrinth Walk.  If you compare the following labyrinth design with the Medicine Wheel above you will see the similarities.  Listening to the Elder share his Medicine Wheel with the youth I was able to hear very similar guidance of sharing a labyrinth walk with others.  I was thrilled to experience the connectedness between these ancient patterns!
