Integration or “embodying” personal change through self realization can be challenging for many!

Written by Renee Lindstrom, Nov 19, 2014 – Note from author:  I believe school warehousing of students was for simplifying group management to maximize numbers and group learning.  This author has noticed the  two other styles of learning mentioned in this article are being blended back into some educational systems.  Consider that the original intention of school was the bright idea of one person who thought it was the best way to go.

The Western Linear learning style schools have adopted for warehousing students has dropped other learning style choices. Two of these other learning styles are: following natural cycles (turning of the seasons) and learning by listening and exploring the experience of those who have gone before us (elders). By only experiencing a linear style education there is a great need for trust and safety in exploring these other two choices.

In Inside’s movement awareness programs, learning is experienced by listening to talking points for references on where to focus and explore those movement patterns. The safety and trust then transfers from the speaker to the those experiencing the changes in themselves as they follow the patterns they hear.  (cannot be compared to yoga where you are shown and put into a pose, or therapy where you are fixed – something is happening to you)

In communication there is a blend of all three learning styles. Linear (for concepts), practice (experiencing the concepts), experience (storytelling).

In movement, the trust in the facilitator is generally readily available, while in communication there is skepticism and doubt until there is a connection to something personal and meaningful. This can happen much easier through experiencing the natural cycle of dialogue (conversations), yet appears to be the most challenging for many. This article has been written one day after leading  both movement and communication workshops by the author whereby this was observed.

It was observed that it was easier for participants to explore new movements than it is for them to practice new ways of talking. In movement there was acceptance and ease in going for it. In communication for many there was resistance and shyness. Yet, while watching others practice there was awe in the outcome of trying to speak with intention and consciousness.

Participants are challenged in the InTouch communication workshops by reduction of the linear learning style and increase in personal practice to encourage sharing for talking experiences and storytelling!

What this author believes from these two experiences of embodying personal change  have integrated as follows:

The participants have demonstrated a higher level of challenge in speaking responsibly and mindfully than those in mindful movement. This is interpreted that this due to the fact that relationships have had a tremendous impact and has the largest focus of a person’s attention, while movement is new territory for most. It reflects the cycle of learning here in the west. Up until school age, children learn through the turning of the seasons and from elders. Going to school the freedom of movement is limited and has a linear learning style, even in sports!

Message to workshop participants: so different, so courageous, so appreciative!

Social Change: “Experience is possibly the highest order of existence”

download (13)

Meaningful change happens when a tribe of bodies in alignment with each other begin to manifest together.  Positive change can happen with the coming together of those who share similar connection beliefs such as acceptance, empathy, direct expressions of honesty, respect, consideration and acknowledgement.  The willingness to listen to each others needs will show up in the creation of concrete solutions for the sustainability of  life and the planet. Why? It is about growing and expanding not controlling.

There is only experience, and nothing else.  It is how you experience that is important, not the end point.  It is about the journey on the way.  You will know which community is your tribe through the experience of being enriched or drained.

The question becomes then, can you tell soon enough which state you are experiencing and move to the one that serves you better? or, do you like struggle as it is familiar, therefore stay stuck in the mud as it is familiar?

Starting a Meditation Practice

A meditation practice will help you to focus your mind, open your heart and find insight.  I can personally recommend Shambhala Meditation offered in North America since the early 70’s.  Having discovered this in my *own practice I can attest to the value of exploring this in one’s life and recommend this style of meditation.  It will benefit an awaking communication and movement practice.

Examine for yourself how the tools of mindfulness and awareness can help you learn how to work with emotions when they arise, both on and off the meditation cushion.  Explore the concept of peaceful abiding that is the core of our being with this on-line introduction.

FAQ:

What are some qualities that  clients would experience in your private sessions that they would remember?

Four qualities that come to mind are:  support, fairness,  patience and empathy.  Whether a movement, empathy or personal coaching  the sessions are grounded upon empathetic listening  and honest expression, (even if hard to hear messages).  Focus is upon the clients, not the practitioner, therefore a direct opportunity for the client can be for a deeper self connection.  In sessions the clients are guided through their experience replacing the teaching model (being talked at)  that culturally we have come to rely upon.  Being told, fixed or having the person we are paying teach us through their experience is so unsatisfactory.  It is the qualities of willingness and courage  that inspire change.  An atmosphere encouraging safe reflection achieves quicker and easier transitions with the least amount of effort!

In Relationships:

Whether sessions include both parties or not, space is held to consider the cause and effect for both sides.  This can deepen conscious understanding of  the root causes of the current experiences.  This process is based upon  empathy to transition out of  right or wrong judgments  for clarity and to regain composure, balance and free will for making difficult choices.  Life changing choices resulting from reaction can create bigger issues, resentment and regret.     Therefore these session need honesty, patience  and empathy to support a smoother transition forward.

In Movement

Once again this process focuses on empathetic listening except now it is focused upon what the body is demonstrating.  Unknown to most in our culture is that our bodies tell our story!  Through observation and felt touch in a safe environment the physical, mental,  emotional and belief aspects of oneself can open to patterns that are no longer working.  It is the awareness of old habits and this new experience that shifts outcomes.  These sessions need honesty, patience and empathy to support clients inner felt sense needs for safety to be met to let go of resistance to go beyond into a new experience in how they feel themselves.

Lifestyle

Clients who are either motivated for change or with chronic conditions will have home or office visits to increase support for life change through their environment.  Like ones body posture the home or office tells a story of one’s experience, yet not one of a personal self-image story.  This is a story of where ones attention is focused in life and how the relationships are  in community that shares the space.  These visits need honesty, patience and empathy to support each member in the process in a way that change can happen.

A pattern of movement for conflict resolution process?

A conflict resolution Labyrinth walk? Yes of course! Shared a creative afternoon yesterday exploring why early communities (pre-religion) would have walked a labyrinth. A hot question on the minds of the participants as the day started and answered only after a guided and experiential journey of labyrinth patterns. An answer was not given in the traditional teaching way, but integrated through a personal exploration, in the safety of a group. An experience that started with strangers (disconnected from each other) and ended in a calm, centered, meaningful and grounded group connection. As the underlying intention was to answer this community question they had a growing realization of the power of walking this pattern before meetings. The purpose: to have the participants walk it together prior to the business meeting to reintegrate community and expand acceptance of each others differences through the pattern of movement. This is what I describe as Green Behavior and love the implications. Can you imagine different outcomes with exploring labyrinth walks for conflict resolution?

Frequently asked Question’s:

1.  How often should I (we) book appointments?

Movement Behavior

Critical Learning  – When asked this question by someone that has obvious shifts with these methods and who has a constraint that limits their quality of life from their movement patterns :

  • The suggestion would be for sessions to be closer together to not lose the experience  between  them.  The goal is to change habits through specialized learning.  This may result in having a reduced length of time in the long run.  It could be once a week, twice a week or even three times a week depending upon critical learning, resistance to learning and acceptance to changes.
REMEMBER THAT MORE CONNECTION INCREASES THE EXPANDED AWARENESS OF LIFESTYLE & RELATIONSHIP CONTRIBUTORS TO YOUR RESTRICTED MOVEMENT PATTERNS.  YES YOUR RELATIONSHIPS AND OUTSIDE STIMULUS CONTRIBUTES TO HOW YOUR MOVE!

.

Awareness Learning – When asked this question by someone who would like to improve the quality of their life experiences:

  • The suggestion is to come for personal sessions at a constant pace to lose the learning in between lessons and to enhance learning by adding movement workshops.  This increases one’s sensation awareness in their movements.

Relationship Behavior

Critical Learning – When asked this by couples, parents or educators and employees who are in the middle of crisis management:

  • The answer is to book sessions close together to support the process and to increase clarity and understanding. In this way issues become manageable.  If left the result is increased pain and struggle.  This may be coming once, twice or even three times a week!  It is easier to process and move forward in the aliveness than to stretch it out and continue distancing or solidifying the behaviors responsible for creating the issues in the first place.
REMEMBER WITHDRAWAL AND RESISTANCE DOES NOT MEAN THE ISSUES WILL GO AWAY.  YOU MAY BE FOOLING YOURSELF AS IT MAY ACTUALLY MEAN THE BEGINNING OF THE END.  IF ONE SIDE IS PROCESSING AND ONE SIDE IS PROTECTING THEMSELVES IN RIGHT AND WRONG THINKING, THE SIDE PROCESSING WILL BECOME BORED AND NOT BE CONTENT TO CONTINUE WITH IT!

Awareness Learning – When asked about personal coaching:

  • The suggestion would be to receive personal coaching at a regular pace so as not to lose the momentum and to develop inner accountability with outside support would enhance skill development.  Adding workshops would enhance the experiential part of oneself.
REMEMBER THAT THERE IS NO END POINT, THERE IS ONLY EVOLUTION AND INCREASED AWARENESS  & QUALITIES OF EXPERIENCING YOUR LIFE!

2.  Are youR suggested booking time-lines mandatory?

No these are not booking requirements that are mandatory to book and receive enhanced life learning skills and change  with Inside Awareness.  These are suggested guidelines to support your continued success in learning how to improve your personal experiences and living experiences.

How often you book is the value you place on yourself and what you can afford to spend upon your personal development.

Exploring without rules is learning!

Being HumanA few hardcore Feldenkrais®  students came to join in one evening of Conscious Movement through Dance.   As the circle began sharing it was explained that the evening wasn’t a Feldenkrais®  focused event for their benefit.  They chose to stay and take part in a movement with the intention to connect conscious awareness and action in a dance pattern.   This concept had been explored with the other participants for a several nights before.  This evenings focus was putting patterns of isolated movements into a bigger flow of  patterns to experience.

As the larger focused movement pattern was taken up off the floor into big movements  a smile crossed their faces.  They mentioned that they had never taken their Feldenkrais®  lessons off the floor, therefore never experienced them in an upright action!  Beautiful moment that encouraged the remaining group members to smile.

Exploring without rules is learning!

Many thanks to the Church of Truth in James Bay for their support in hosting this wonderful series and letting us play with Conscious Movement in Dance!
