Entering the Century of Dialogue

Universal Intention - accepting the challenges of today and taking action

Universal Intention – accepting the challenges of today and taking action

A historic event was unfolding over Peace Weekend, Sept 20 & 21 ’14. The Dali Lama gathered the 9 religion’s of India together to discuss secular ethics and the environment of the world!

The Dali Lama declared the this Century the Century of Peace and how to achieve it – a Century of Dialogue!

Renee of Inside  was inspired to create this image as she listened to the plenary sessions of this historic gathering. The leaders of the nine religions in India gathering together for a dialogue. What Renee heard from these leaders was in tune with her philosophy and life’s passion. Peace will only come through mindful dialogue. The three things she enjoyed hearing from these sessions was: 1. We are all the same. there is no difference between us. 2. We all need two things, grain and clean water. 3. If the water is polluted??????, If there is no grain??????

Inside perspective of  why does a century of peace depend upon a century of dialogue?

Peace comes from learning how to build a friendship based upon trust. Good friends are ones that have experienced you as trustworthy.  Bad friends are ones who have learned not to not trust you through experience. What determines trustworthy behavior?  Ethical behavior based upon shared values.

Values are universal and shared by all people.  We are  all the same and  we share the  same qualities of  human function.  These qualities are the four aspects of self;  mental, emotional, physical  and belief.  We all have the same needs for relationships,  survival and happiness and are entitled to achieve happiness in our life.  We are all entitled to relationships built upon respect and equality.

How can we create a culture of ethical behavior?  Through education, practice and commitment.  It begins with accepting the challenge and taking action.  It is only through personal change that one can be the change they want to see in the world.

A great starting point is learning a vocabulary of values.   Inside value programs are designed to start where you are and available for personal development, for the office, organization and education institution.  They are available for both adults and children.

Bringing Love Back

In the office organizing fall workshop, events & classes and meeting to plan & create 2015’s Winter Schedule, my thoughts go back to setting Inside Awareness goals for 2014. (defined below) It appears this intention was set and forgotten in the blur of  living my business. Reflecting and an aha moment!  Bringing Love Back and my mind goes to:

  • Yesterday, (06/23) and receiving an invitation to place a colorful heart shaped labyrinth on the lawn of our B.C. Legislature in support of Peace, followed by an offer to film it to show on local T.V. Station’s regular programming
  • Last Saturday (06/21) supporting World Refugee Day with a heart shaped labyrinth at celebrations held at Main Branch of Victoria’s Regional Library
    • Beginning of June hosting a Labyrinth Workshop and hearing how a participant will use if for resolving differences in long-standing conflict.
    • Creating heart shaped labyrinth at Creative United Festival
    • Introducing Inside love techniques  at a #yyj International Woman’s Day Event
    • Creating first heart-shaped wedding labyrinth for couple’s ceremony.
    • Sharing heart-shaped labyrinth at James Bay Community School Event.
    • Creating a new template for a heart-shaped ceremonial labyrinth with designer and placing it for the first time on #yyj’s Willows Beach.

    Bringing ‘Love’ Back Campaign

    Bringing Love Back!

What is your definition of love?

Googling it, here at Inside we  find the following:

    Definition of love

     or:

    • Love is an incredibly powerful word. When you’re in love, you always want to be together, and when you’re not, you’re thinking about being together because……..
    • ……a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person. 2. a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend
    • ……..a feeling of strong or constant affection for a person. : attraction that includes sexual desire : the strong affection felt by people who have a romantic relationship.

At Inside we have come to describe love as respect, acknowledgment, consideration, affection, trust, safety  support, kindness, being seen and heard, to matter, equality and mutuality, faith, believing, empathy, understanding, autonomy, independence, power in one’s world! To value and to be valued!

    Bringing 'Love' back with Self-Love
    Bringing ‘Love’ back with Self-Love

Here at Inside the premise is that love’s quality comes from inside and is supported by outside influences.  The love one feels for oneself is a personal achievement that begins with self-value first and then with skill development to support an environment that then supports self-love.  You too can learn the skills to create an environment that loves  and supports you.  Even in conflict!  Yes you have read this right!

    Bringing 'Love' Back - Influences
    Bringing ‘Love’ Back – Influences

When one meet their own needs for the above values it creates an organic compassion and willingness to have empathy for others.  Rumi’s quote,

“Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing there is a field, I will meet you there!”

    SAMSUNG
Bringing ‘Love’ Back – Self Expression

Love can be shown for oneself and others and is not dependent only upon intimate relationships.  Love is not simply between two lovers.  It is a natural skill of humankind shared with one another used with the skill of  discernment.  Vulnerability mixed with passion  that you extend to your lover is different than the love you show your children.  The loving kindness you extend to yourself and others outside of your immediate family can vary and is again different!

At Inside the main principle is that peace, harmony, joy and success begins within one’s balance of mind, body and faith.   These qualities are only available when conscious awareness is focused upon one’s automatic behaviors joined with an attitude of commitment for making change.  Our programs are designed for learning beyond habitual understanding and automatic behavior.  It is designed for waking up your desire and passion.  Techniques are to integrate learning, thinking, communication and body movements.  These are skills for life and allow for a self-image of being who you want to be in the world, not who you don’t want to be!

Value of the week:

getting InTouch - Value - Shelter

Take a moment to reflect upon walking up to your front door.  In your imagination notice the environment on the walk up to your front door.  As you turn the key and begin to enter notice any shifts inside.  What feelings arise?  Do you go from a sense of being rushed into a quieting state of peace, relaxation and groundedness?  If not, why not?  What is happening in your home that is not supporting you in this way?

Now imagine not having a home.  What feelings come up?  Do you take your home for granted?  Do you have a love/hate relationships with your home?

Consider all the above and the consequences of how this may affect your health and well-being.

This weeks consideration is a value for basic survival:

getting InTouch - Value - Food

What is your relationship with food?  Reflect on how you personally feel about your diet.  Consider if you find the textures, colors and tastes pleasurable to your senses.  If not, what might the cause be?   Reflect upon whether you may be taking food for granted or if you have a deep appreciation for food.

It is only when we have an inner appreciation for our food that we will connect to giving from the heart to others with less than ourselves without guilt, shame or resentment.   Renee, June ’14

“The spoken word”

Balance - Spoken WordRecently when describing how contemplation can be an outcome when using a precise formula of spoken words,  a colleague mentioned a verse in the bible as follows:

John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

  • King James Bible “Authorized Version”, Cambridge Edition

What a wonderful insight and comparison!

The quote I have connected to in the past as describing this experience comes from Rumi:

“Out beyond right doing and wrong doing there is a field.  I will meet you there.”

Here are a few more lines in this chapter that continue to describe an experience of connection that may happen between two people speaking with honesty and listening with empathy.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
