The entrance is important to a home or business. It is the primary entrance for wind (feng shui) to enter that fills the home with vitality. The front door is considered the mouth of chi (energy). The purpose of enhancing one’s entrance is to draw in the energy of prosperity and abundance.
The front entrance of your home or business will reflect the experience of the occupants or business, whether that is failure or success!
In an earlier post we mentioned how important it was to have the front door visible to the street by drawing attention to it. Now we are sharing how to use the cardinal directions to enhance the front doors placement.
Listed below are the attributes and qualities of each of the four cardinal directions (North, South, East & West) and their transitional stages (North-East, North-West, South -East and South -West). Once you determine your front door direction scroll down to find it listed.
A South facing front door
Compass reading – 157 – 202 degrees
A south facing front door is considered to have a yang (masculine) quality to it. This quality is sometime described as the sun and it reflects summer or high noon.
This direction is the fame doorway and it represents reputations and recognition. The South is considered the fire element which can be reflected by the shape of a triangle or in the colors of red, purple, dark yellow, deep orange and pink.
A South – East facing front door
Compass reading – 202.5 to 247.5 degrees
A south east facing front door is considered to have a yang (masculine) quality to it. This direction reflects spring becoming summer and late morning.
This direction is the prosperity doorway and it represents money and abundance. The South-East is considered a wood element reflected in the shape of an upright rectangle or in colors of green and brown.
An East facing front door
Compass reading – 67.5 to 112.5 degrees
An east facing front door is considered to have a yang (masculine) quality to it. East reflects springtime and morning time. Therefore this would not be the hot afternoon sun, but the fresh rising sun.
This direction is the family doorway and it represents community and past. The East is considered a wood element which can be reflected by the shape of an upright rectangle or in the colors of green and brown.
A North – East facing front door
Compass reading – 22.5 to 67.5 degrees
A North – East facing front door is considered to have a balance of yin and yang to it. This direction is a transitional stage in the wheel of winter into spring or night into morning.
This direction is the spirituality and personal growth doorway and it represents higher education. The North – East is considered an earth element which can be reflected by a low square shape or in the colors of light yellow, sand and earth.

Compass reading – 337.5 to 22.5 degrees
A North facing front door is considered to have yin (feminine energy). This direction is the season of winter or night into morning.
This direction is the Life-path doorway and it represents the journey and careers. The North is considered a water element which can be reflected by an irregular shape or in the colors of blue and black.
A North – West Facing door
Compass reading – 292.5 to 337.5 degrees
A North – West facing front door is considered to have yin (feminine) energy. This direction is the season of fall transitioning into winter or evening into night time.
This direction is the Helpful People doorway and it represents blessing and travel. The North is considered a metal element which can be reflected by a round shape or in the colors of white, grey or black.
A West facing door
Compass reading – 247.5 to 292.5 degrees
A West facing front door is considered to have yin (feminine) energy. This direction is reflects fall or early evening.
This direction is the Creativity doorway and it represents children and future. The west is considered a metal element which can be reflected by a round shape or in the colors of white, grey or black.
a South – West facing door
Compass reading – 202.5 to 247.5 degrees
A South – West facing front door is considered to have a balance of yin and yang energy. This direction is the season of summer transitioning into fall or late afternoon.
This direction is the Love & Relationship doorway and it represents Partnerships. The South – West is considered an earth element which can be reflected by a low square shape or in the colors of light yellow, sand and earth.
