getting InTouch Value Cards
After last nights introduction to Awareness through Movement® for TMJ, I came across this diagram on learning to draw and observed that it could describe the class I just facilitated!
The first ball could describe how we could feel the weight of our head when we pause to check in . As we are guided in a direction of observation throughout the lesson there is the potential to begin feeling the separate parts and how they function. For example in this class open and closing one’s jaw. How it feels in the eyes at the end of the lesson is completely different from how it may have felt in the beginning! I love this diagram that also depicts growing sensory awareness!

What about you? What do you think directs your mouth to open, closed and shift from side to side?
Crazy idea! Your teeth are one small part in the function of your jaw, yet when you search mouth images the bulk only show lips and teeth. The tongue, upper and lower jaw, jaw joints, cheeks and chin is usually missing. No wonder most people only think teeth and lips!

Jaw
How many of you are familiar with your jaw? If so, is it because it is tight, sensitive, painful or locked?
This week I worked with a client whose legs started shaking dramatically when massaging their tense jaw. She had chronically locked her jaw so tightly that it affected how she supported herself through her legs. Later she mentioned that her walking improved! Imagine that?
Another client coming to discuss walking explained to me they had surgery on their jaw as a teenager. Apparently wearing braces had changed the position of their lower jaw. When the braces came off the teeth were straight but the upper jaw was quite a bit forward of the lower jaw. The over bite fix was tragic! Breaking the jaw and moving it forward. Wow, at no time did anyone consider simple learning exercises for releasing the jaw may reduce the need surgery?
Come to an upcoming workshop series and find out more about how jaw health. For example how your eyes, ears, cheeks, neck, chest, shoulder and arms can or can be affected by what is happening in your mouth!

Learn tools to teach your children to hear what is meaningful for you as parents. Learning can be fun and not through discipline, punishment and reward if your model of parenting includes ongoing techniques for sharing what you value. If you children hear you through fun, play and story time what is important for you they will carry this into their later years when they are becoming more social and less parent centered. Come and learn it is what you do and how you do it!
