Experiencing Presence through Left Brain, Right Brain Movement Awareness

As I consider today’s Self-Awareness through movement workshop I am searching for a focus point of motivation.  Recent Feldenkrais students have deepened the connection between left and right brain movement actions.  I recognize that this is the intention for today, the balance of the right and left brain in movement that creates  presence in action.

Babies are the most present and aware beings on the planet.  They have to be to be able to teach themselves to roll over, sit up, crawl, stand, walk, run do somersaults and cartwheels.  This will be a good place to focus the workshop participants.  Not on doing cartwheels, exploring babies first movements!

One segment of society that I have consistently worked with this past decade is seniors, men and women.  This includes those with diagnosed conditions and those without.  As my experience of theirs and societies behavioral patterns become more recognizable, I find an urge to begin to write a series to share some aspects that I am discovering that influence false believes of  aging.    If you are interested in learning more, check back in to explore this series!

Recent Comment:  Thank you for the amazing session which helped me to better understand the pain and anxiety issues I’ve been dealing with. Very insightful experience. I felt way more relaxed Friday evening and I’m monitoring myself to help ensure I’m releasing tension and breathing properly. Am impressed by it and by your skills. D

I have been using lava to increase circulation and love it!

LavaA piece of lava caught my attention when searching for a good brush to increase the circulation in my skin and underlying tissue.  Curious,  I choose to try it  and find I am pleased with it.  Not only does it increase sensation it exfoliates too!   I have found a affordable supplier if you would like to try it.

Encouraging others to enhance their sensual awareness I want to share that this is a personal self-care exercise that not only increases self-awareness, it enhances self-esteem and increases personal pleasure.

Did you know that it is easier to smile than it is to frown?

Try it!

Happy, sad

  • Check out the muscles in your face as you smile and as you frown.
  • Notice the different experience of the two.  One is uplifting and one is draining.
  • Which posture is familiar to you?
  • Look in a mirror  to see if you are smiling because if your little self only frowned growing up, you will think you are smiling but others will see a frown!

Now from a somatic perspective smile and frown again, however, notice your inner sensations.

  • Which one creates and expands breathe and which one makes it difficult to breathe?
  • Which one lifts your spirits up and brings you into a more upright posture and which one drops your spirit with your body sinking or collapsing?
  • Now imagine facing this smile and this frown in conversation and  how you would interpret it and react to it.

Now practice smiling and frowning at others and notice their reactions.

Emotions in self:

Exercise and develop face muscles and behavior!

Emotions in communication:

Develop connection or disconnection!

Emotions in environment:

Create a cultural experience!

At Inside our focus is on self-awareness and empowerment through somatic learning to nurture deeper intelligence of  when one is in a state of  connected (being presence) or disconnected (fight, flight or fight) by understanding cause of ones own reactions.  Pivotal point of re-balancing.  This includes perception, movement posture,  sensations (sometimes called emotions) and environmental causes.

Living Awareness Personal Program

Living Awareness in the now

Explore being in the now with a personal somatic integration program. This personal educational program is designed for deepened personal learning by enhancing self-awareness.  This holistic movement to mindfulness program guides you to listen to yourself and teaches you how you focus your attention.  Learning how you function increases physical, mental and emotional experiences.  It supports breaking habits that hold you back from fully experiencing a fuller life, increases mobility, flexibility, calms your busy mind and supports you to become mindful of your somatic messaging!

This program increases personal safety and reduces anxiety creating space to stimulate new movement pattern awareness.  Some natural benefits are an increase in tolerance, empathy and patience in oneself and with others. Awareness of movement is the main contributor to improving movement.

Every time the brain is used four competent are stimulated:  movement, thought, sensation and feeling – the four aspects of self.  Typically one aspect is not experienced without the other three.  Inside Awareness programs focus on the four aspects of self.  We offer acute programs that can focus on anyone of these four aspects; movement, thought, sensation or feeling, and programs that are designed for contemplative integration of these four aspects.

What is unique about this program is the patterns of movement may bring you up against your own obstacles of fear and/or protections that you may have  ignored.  Expanding awareness through movement is subtle and easy and  can open you to emotional and mental blind spots.  In this program the movement is the focus and not your stories.  This can give one a fuller understanding of their old habits in present time and bypass lingering in old stories.  It is a practice of being in the now (present) to process.  It is not to say through the movement that old memories won’t arise, they will.  Memories will rise and fall away with ease and are less likely to be lingering parasitic obstacles to a happier and healthier life!

This 90 minute program has three parts.  The first 30 minutes is practitioner lead patterns of movement, the second 30 minutes is guided movement for growing awareness.  This is followed by time with practitioner to build personal literacy of experience.

Each part of this Living Awareness Program can be experienced separately as individual sessions.

Definition of Sacred Space @ Inside

Sacred space is an experience created by one’s inner connection that is reflected in one’s outer nature and the their environment.  It is the ability to experience a particular connection to; oneself,  what is above, what is below and around oneself in the landscape.  This connection includes reverence and honor.  It represents balance within oneself of the physical (north, south, east & west), mental (masculine), emotional (feminine) and belief systems (values, devotion).

Notice how these early experiences now define your first reactions to any stimulus that you experience in your relationships.  I refer to stimulus as anything that brings you from your center of peace and inner quiet.  It will be what brings you into action or reaction.
