A powerful message to start 2019!

The transition into 2019 happened on a waning moon.  A waning moon is not the time to start new project, but a time to tie up loose ends, clean and clear clutter.  I never expected the impact of this moons influence on the start of my new year.

At 4 a.m. on January 1st a text came stating I had been hacked and I read that my  computer was compromised. To add to the  fear factor, it said that I had been signed up to a porn site and that they had taken video of me over my webcam.  They threatened to send video of me to my contacts along with video beside it showing I was watching porn.  To stop them there was a ransom payable in bitcoin.  I took it seriously enough to investigate if these grandiose hacking concepts as this message suggested could be possible.  The short answer to what I discovered and this is yes completely possible.

Clearing electronic clutter was how my year began.  Amusing thing about this threat is that porn could increase my business in #relationshipcoaching.  Porn is pretty lame when it comes to the #realstories of #realpeople and what they are overcoming from their past to try to be alive in the present.   Reading the full email there is a statement that stood out to me.  It goes,

I guarantee you that I will not disturb you again after payment, as you are not my single victim. This is a hacker code of honor.  Don’t be mad at me, everyone has their own work. Exactly what should you do?  Well, in my opinion, $1000 (USD) is a fair price for our little secret.

What stood out was the comparison of extortion to work and the directive to not be mad at them for it.  I paused a moment and considered how this email was designed to instill fear, guilt and shame in others to make financial gain.  Even if one person paid them for their efforts it would net them $1,000.

In comparison,  as I also work with making the impossible possible, it would take many clients for me to make the same amount through my work which contribution is to reduce fear reactions and eliminate shame, blame and guilt by mentoring how to turn it into self-esteem and confidence.

Take away’s from this experience!

  1.  The threats in this hackers message were implied and perceived by my state of being reading the message itself.  The threats were not real.  The only reason I didn’t react to it is that my focus of attention was on exploring the possibilities, not on any consequences of how it would impact me in my community.
