Hitting the food re-set button

Hitting a food re-set button began a number of years ago for me while in the midst of a transition and being in the complete unknown.  I was standing on a blank canvas while coming down with a seasonal cold.

Unbeknownst to me a simple self-question began a new/old journey.  A journey that was motivated in early childhood, separated from in a later childhood lifestyle change only to return with being a new empty-nester.

I am thankful that my focus of attention unconsciously shifted to meaningful connections in the environment in new-ish ways and that I wasn’t distracted by seeking meaning in other ways.

These past years has dissolved the dysfunction of eating rules, diet labels and the dominant destructive self-abuse has stopped.  Curiosity and exploration took its place.  It happened without a plan and was a natural progression resulting from my focus of attention being distracted by this study of eating edibles weeds and making personal remedies/products from what was growing in the surrounding  community.

How has my life changed from this organic re-set button?

  1. Natural weight loss
    • thru eating what was available seasonally and slowly shifting to living foods
  2. Seasonal & food directed intermittent fasting routine increases physical, mental and emotional functions
    • the way of eating has shifted how and when eating that follows a natural body rhythm increasing body part functions
    • no longer hunger driven as body parts are  independently  receiving their individual nutritional needs
  3. Increased sensing
    • inner felt-senses increased  to the point of when ingesting food and drinks being able to notice different body parts responding
    • inner felt-sense of posture and postural transitions increased
  4. Enhanced flexibility
    • increase of flexibility to do daily functions
    • enhanced emotional states and increased resilience
  5. Simplified eating plan
    • reduction in amounts
    • increase in healthy food choices
    • loss of cravings
    • less compulsiveness in food choices when shopping to the point of no desires for common foods of the past
    • no fast food
    • increase in preparing own recipes
  6. Growing love of food
    • eating is no longer a chore, feared or something to satisfy body cravings
    • food has become an appreciative relationship of giving and receiving
  7. Education
    • foods for increased function
    • foods for healing
    • foods for natural remedies, products and growing
    • recipes
    • starting cultures and maintaining them
  8. Interplay of food and myself  has become a beautiful part of day to day living and a joyful part of life
    • fear, emptiness and hopelessness has turned into a interactive joyful connection
    • becoming grounded
    • becoming appreciative for the environment

Eating for the body replaces mental dominance over body & food

Over these past few years the interaction of experiencing living foods has reduced fear and increased self-confidence in trusting myself by increasing the connection between body and food and lessening the dominance of mental body over food  and body.

Living food engages interplay where natural is relevant

Now while outside in the yard or surrounding community nature is relevant and interacts with me.  My focus has shifted that now includes nature in my own perception of myself. A feeling of oneness,   In the past this would be an experience only after a mindful meditation retreat, however now this integration has resulted in it being the common experience.  So much so that it is evident immediately when it is absent.  It is a missing link in my physical, mental and emotional sensation.

It’s time to hit the reset button to ways of being.  Nature is living and interacts with us.  We just need to listen.

What can you do to start your own somatic food experience?

Surprised by spontaneous appreciation for meal matched a level of spiritual connection

Cutting sourdough, spreading with humus and pouring a bowl of bone-broth goodness, I sensed excitement and appreciation growing.  A smile formed while eating that grew to a level of appreciation I felt  bursting out with love.  I had to pause and acknowledge this experience.  Along with it I observed a thought cloud pass through my mind comparing this love experience and how it surpassed any love I have ever had for a partner.  My smile grew even bigger as I realized that my love in partnership could increase this much too.  Once feeling it, it becomes increasingly possible.  For me, this experience is the equalizer of any fear that may influence rub off on me  as we travel through current events.

Each of these simple foods were made from scratch with healthy ingredients and some cultured from home.  For example the sourdough was started a year ago and carried forward by adding new ingredients to the culture with each loaf made since then.   Every two or so days this sourdough has been handled by myself so the energy of it lacks any other influence.  For me this means that all the love and attention over the year is now included in my meal.  It is such a healing experience!

The humus is packed with healthy ingredients including black garlic fermented at home.

I like to blog about natural sources of food for health and well -being.  Here is an article  I wrote about  fermenting blank garlic .

The bone broth was stared with fresh baby yellow dock plants picked in the morning.  The leaves and roots of this plant are healthy especially for detoxing.  Right now the best thing we can do is eat healthy foods that support an action of detoxing our system to stay healthy.

Have you considered your food choices and how they determine your state of well-being mentally, emotionally and physically?
Have you considered who has handled the food you are about to put into your mouth?
The best way to create healing experiences with food is to interact with it either by growing it and handling it until it reaches your table or by tuning in to it and clearing it prior to eating it?

Chakra alter for balancing

Alter reflecting chakras for balance

I opened a new and specific alter for balancing my energy centers and connecting to the earth below for grounding and sky above for spaciousness.

Faced with the unknown of these days ahead this alter represents an intention to connect with self to balance and reclaim my state of well-being.  Susceptible to others states of being this action will be a reminder to find my center and not be carried away by others reactions.

How will you find your center?

Rejuvenating bath with sea-salt

Sea Salt

A wonderful way to soften your water and increase your energy levels is to bath in sea-salt and baking soda.  Add a few drops of lavender essential oil and it will enhance your senses.

Sea-salt is a sacred element and often used to clean the energy in our environment.  Many of us are unaware that it can also clear our personal energy fields.  Baking soda softens water and when immersed in this combination you will begin to feel softer yourself.

Remember to book at least 20 minutes for soaking and enjoying this time in the bath and also dunk your head a few times to complete immerse yourself.  It will clear your chakras and all your bodies; physical, etheric perceptual, emotional, mental and spiritual.

Boost Immune System through eating to fight infections & viruses

Be curious about what is growing in front of your feet before running to the market and stocking up on dehydrated and processed foods!

What’s growing around you is actually in sync with your seasonal needs.  For example, detoxifying plants packed with so much nutritional value they are called, “super foods,” has been growing in the Greater Victoria area since December.

In the past week I felt the symptoms of an sinuous infection that seemed to put pressure on my teeth and stimulate their nerves.  The pain became intolerable when the nerves became agitated so it was hard to tell what was going on. My first thought was to find the Oregon Grape tincture to fight infection.  My second was to find some homeopathic remedies for the acute pain.  Within a few excruciating moments the pain  had subsided.  Then it was time to wait and observe.  Continuing with doses of Oregon Grape tincture, over the evening and next day, I found that in 24 hours the infection  symptoms had disappeared along with the sensitivity.

When I became curious about what was growing in my own backyard that could support me through my cold and flu five years ago turned out to be the best exploration ever.  It changed my life!

I am thankful for the time and effort spent since then exploring all the plant benefits growing in my area as a food source or medicinal.  I belief the rapid healing response was due in part to incorporating them into a healthy diet.  An example of this is starting the day with a green juice of freshly picked chickweed, dock, dandelion, baby kale and cleavers, and combined with ginger and asparagus.   This drink is followed in 15 minutes with a kefir smoothie (pro-biotic) with grapefruit, pineapple, berries, avocado, nut butter and turmeric.  In five or so minutes a few fermented black garlic cloves follows.  Many of these food items are immune boosting,  anti-inflammatory and natural anti-biotics.

I suspect another reason for this quick outcome is due in part to a natural pattern of eating has emerged which is intermittent fasting.  This has organically become a part of the eating rhythm.  Introducing fresh nutrition, and fermented and cultured foods seemed to change the eating plan and schedule organically.  A natural progression of increased time between the day’s last meal and the next days first foods occurred from the food experience itself.    Not only does this support the crown chakra needs, physically it supports ones liver, colon and thyroid.  I have personally noticed that my metabolism has become faster and more alert, my gut is lighter and my elimination process is healthier.

The best possible outcome for me is the change in my thinking and the stories I tell myself.  I no longer use labels or have any diet rules.  There are no should’s, should of’s  or stories around eating something creating feelings of guilt.  Now it’s a feeling of appreciation with the thought focused on how this food item is nutrition for a functioning part.  Such as eating strawberries or kefir.  When eating them my thought is on how it is feeding my brain.  Kefir is feeding my colon living pro-biotics and feeding my brain the B vitamins it needs to function at a higher level.

Nourishing my spirit

It is a joy to love and appreciate the food source with confidence of how it is contributing to my physical, mental and emotional functions.  Shifting into this way of being with food is feeding my spiritual essence that comes alive from the experience.

Sea Salt can be a boundary for sensitive people & animals

Sea Salt is a sacred element

I was reminded yesterday of a time when I used sea salt for protection regularly.  It was in a unit that had an exiting ‘spirit trail’ Which became visible after the birth of my son and daughter when my energy was at its lowest.  With this lower vitality and stamina a veil between the spirits and myself was opened.

As it happened this trail led right to my bed.    This meant that my bed was not a space of refuge but a doorway for interacting with these seeking spirits.  Exhausted and needing a balanced sleep I began using sea salt to create a boundary at my bedroom door.  I sprinkled it across the doorway with the intention of  it being a  protection and boundary that couldn’t  be crossed by these seeking spirits.  As an added protection I sprinkled it around my bed for a deepening personal protection.  It worked.  My bedroom became quiet and my bed returned to a place of rest rather than a meeting place.

Once rested I then purposely set an intention to request that  this spirit trail be re-positioned so that it did not go through my unit.  Ironically it came through my front gate to the front door and up the stairs.  After asking them to use another pathway I gave an offering of appreciation and recognition.  For me this meets my need for respect and acceptance versus the realm of  good/bad and right/ wrong.  Immediately the water cooler on the land quite moving and other sounds made to get our attention disappeared.  That was 24 years ago!

Sharing the value of sea salt as protection in a conversation I was left with a hand full of it on a mirror that I used to demonstrate its usefulness.  Later I began sprinkling it along my property line.  It happened it was a full moon when I would take this action to affirm intentions to block any aggressive behaviour or negative energy from neighbours or passerby’s.  It was this conversation that made me realize how integrated these intentions and actions are in my own self-care and how others would benefit by considering it for their own support.  .

Learning to calm down environmental influences created the balance of space to pursue in-depth functional characteristics that has led to more clarity in active motion.  Practical and profound systems that would never have been possible without these sacred action connections.

5 Easy Steps for Protection with Sea Salt

  1.  Start with sea salt (no replacements)
  2.  Get clear on your intention.
  3.  Sprinkle salt while speaking your intention.
      • in mind or out loud
  4.  Be thankful and acknowledge your appreciation.
      • by voice or offering (I use an orange as it has been used for generations – to be composted not eaten later)
If salt is picked up during cleaning, re-set intention with fresh salt and repeat steps.
