2 Popular Labyrinth Designs

by Renee Lindstrom, GCFP @ Inside Awareness
The origins of the labyrinth pattern is unknown. The pattern is an archetypal form that is found around the world and they date back 4000 to 5000 years. Only now is acceptance of using this pattern of movement growing as we discover the benefits which includes improved well-being, increased connection in reflection, meditation, realignment and self knowledge. These benefits have been experienced from walking, drawing or tracing a finger labyrinths.
Two popular designs are the Classical or 7 Circuit and the 11 Circuit Labyrinths.
7 Circuit
The 7 circuit labyrinth supports a relaxed, calm and outgoing attitude and brings the walk into the present with more alertness. You may choose to walk a 7 circuit labyrinth prior to an important business meeting, personal appointment, or when making decisions.
11 Circuit
The 11 circuit labyrinth is a more elaborate patter and is effective for deepening personal reflections and contemplation. The pattern supports balancing the right and left sides of the brain and energy centers of the body. It can support quieting the mind for clearer insights and inner guidance. You may choose to walk an 11 circuit labyrinth when you are making personal change, resolving conflict, making important decision in relationships or at work.

Winter Solstice ~ December 21, 2012
In November, 2012 after a meeting discussing the upcoming 2013 Labyrinth Conference on Vancouver Island with a delegate of the organizing committee, Louise Taylor and I made an agreement to host a Labyrinth Walk on Winter Solstice. She mentioned she would like to invite Joanne Thomson and together the three of us began envisioning what such an event could look like. Here are some photos of the vision coming to life in real time. Now I am going to ask you the viewer to imagine the quality of the space that you might feel in a community that creates together and the resulting inner connection.

Injury
Feldenkrais® Method Research
Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement and Functional Integration® lessons have been shown to help patients avoid developing protective, maladaptive patterns to an injury. In other words, Feldenkrais lessons can be instrumental in helping patients form beneficial and adaptive patterns during recovery integrating total body movement into the recovery process.

Fibromyalgia
Feldenkrais® Method Research
Patients with Fibromyalgia moved more easily, efficiently and with less effort after learning to reorganize the biomechanics of their movements during 15 weeks of Feldenkrais sessions and classes. Immediately following, and six months after completion of the class, improvements in balance, posture and gait were reported. Also reported were reduced pain, increased sleep and reduction in fatigue.
