Salt Minerals for skin care & spiritual cleansing

Water & salt for rejuvenation, clearingโ€‚energy field and purification

The human body is 60 percent water.โ€‚The human heart and brain is 73 percent water.โ€‚The lungs are 83 percent water, the skin is 64 percent water, the muscles and kidneys are 79 percentโ€‚and the bones are 31 percent.โ€‚Seventy one percent of the earth is covered by water.โ€‚Ninety seven percent of the water covering the earth is salt water.โ€‚This writer experiences water as an element to balance and reconnect with self.โ€‚Water is sacred.โ€‚Why?โ€‚We cannot survive without it.โ€‚Salt is well known as a sacred element as well.โ€‚It absorbs energies, positive and negative and softens the water. It has the similar influences on your body.โ€‚Bathing in a warm salt infused bath is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself for rejuvenation; mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.โ€‚

Years ago while on a holiday with the children I was drawn in to a booth with a woman who shared her age with me.โ€‚It seemed unbelievable due to the quality of her skin, yet I took her at her word.โ€‚She was crusty and the memories she shared could easily match the age range she said she was.โ€‚The products in her booth originated from Dead Sea minerals.โ€‚I have always taken care of my skin so after a treatment with her products I knew Dead Sea Salts was the real deal.โ€‚It outshone all the products I had tried over the years.โ€‚

I have since used it in making skin exfoliators, however, recently I discovered it’s benefits for bathing in.โ€‚The minerals are excellent for ones skin and detoxing the body.โ€‚It apparently has 10 times the minerals over other salts, some of which are sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, bromides and iodine.โ€‚Soaking in a warm salted bath is one of the most effective ways to absorb vital minerals.  It is known to be relaxing and soothing creating a deeper sense of well being.โ€‚

  • How much salt in a soothing bath?

I have read the suggested amount of Dead Sea salt to add to the bath ranges from 1/2 a cup to 2 cups.โ€‚I found 2 cups a bit much and have settled at approximately a cup.โ€‚For an added luxury I add 1/2 to 1 cup of baking soda.โ€‚Both salt and baking soda are water softeners and in like it stimulates the same softening and relaxation in ones soft tissues.โ€‚I often add 10 or so drops of lavender essential oils.

  • How often to soak in a salt bath?

Depending upon the levels of stress in those around me and their interactive experiences I will bathe in salt regularly.โ€‚Some weeks it is 3 to 4 times.โ€‚It seems to clear my energy field when stimulated by environmental influences which can cause confusion and a feeling to static.โ€‚This bath will defuse it immediately.โ€‚It is a self care routine I use with intention.โ€‚

  • Length of time for receiving benefits?

Twenty minutes is my go to guide for the basic starting point.โ€‚I usually go longer if I have the time, however the minimum in twenty minutes.โ€‚

I alternate the salt I use in the bathe in due to the different minerals from their root origins on the earth.โ€‚Two others I use regularly are:

  • Himalayan Pink Salt

Himalayan Pink Salt has a spectrum of more than 80 trace minerals and is one of the purest and naturally occurring salts.ย  It is hand minded from the foot of the Himalayan hills and hand ground. This salt has the same benefits as Dead Sea salt such as reducing stress, inflammation and improving skin conditions.โ€‚I follow the same routines as described in the Dead Sea salt element.โ€‚

  • Mediterranean Sea Salt

I recently discovered Mediterranean due to its price point.โ€‚I was attracted to the significant difference and did some research.โ€‚It also has 80 plus mineral elements. It too creates a soothing and healing bath experience.โ€‚

Acupressure Mat

I began lying on an acupressure mat and 1/2 bolster in late Dec ’23, for 20 minutes a day.โ€‚Not for the faint hearted!โ€‚When first laying down the sharp points are surprising and can be temporarily painful.โ€‚However within minutes my back softened and the points no longer caused discomfort.โ€‚The only time the points caused any temporary uncomfortable moments when lying on them was when shifting my weight.โ€‚For example, bending my knees and standing my feet to put more pressure into the small of my back.โ€‚I also raised my lower back and began putting bolster under neath for more pressure into shoulder blades and lower back.โ€‚This mat is long enough to target the length of my spine beginning at the top of my shoulder blades and down to the bottom of my sacrum.โ€‚With the 1/2 bolster I can apply the points to my neck.โ€‚

I began to use this acupressure mat to test it for softening the muscles along my vertebrae from my neck down through my sacrum.โ€‚As a Feldenkraisยฎ Practitioner (since 2007) I am all too well aware of the common restrictions causing limited mobility through contraction of the muscles and soft tissue along the spine, ribs and into the pelvis.โ€‚This restricts flexibility and limberness. that ultimately can cause injury and pain.โ€‚What I wasn’t expecting was the increase in blood circulation when lying down on these points.โ€‚It was immediate and the whole area warmed up.โ€‚I quickly recognized the value in warming the organs up as well in these areas.โ€‚Read more below on the benefits I have noticed in just a few days.

Noticeable benefits of lying on acupressure mat in a few short days

  • Release of TMJ joints inn lower jaw with angling the 1/2 roller.โ€‚This was unexpected and increased the benefits for me.โ€‚I hold tension in my TMJ joints naturally and I could feel them let go and my jaw drop.โ€‚Due to TMJ stress myself I have taught a workshop since 2007 on how to shift habitual patterns through the facial muscles, neck and shoulder muscles toโ€‚lengthen and tonify them to increase the flexibility of the jaw.โ€‚Feeling this deeper release was tremendously rewarding to experience.โ€‚If for only this benefit I would recommend lying on an acupressure mat!โ€‚Upcoming TMJ workshop in March ’24
  • Increase in vitality the first day after lying on the mat for 20 minutes.โ€‚There was an inner vitality that emerged motivating more activity throughout the day.โ€‚Luckily I have chosen the morning to test it out.
  • I have noticed a deeper quality in my sleep even through I have chosen to lay on the mat in the morning.โ€‚The articles I have read mention an increase in sleep when lying on it at night.โ€‚I am too active right to bed time to lay on it at this time, yet still seem to have the same benefits.โ€‚
  • Each additional day I lay on the mat for twenty minutes I am noticing more benefits not immediately experienced.โ€‚After a few days I began to notice a softening in my arm and leg muscles even though they are not on the mat.โ€‚It seems to be coming from the ribs and vertebrae release.โ€‚My fingers are more flexible and soft.โ€‚The tightness around the bone has dissolved even through I haven’t actively focused upon functional movement patterns with them during this time.โ€‚
  • Today I experienced increased points of energy release along my lower back, beginning in my sacrum.โ€‚At the base of my sacram I sensed a release, a pulsation and warmth that immediately increased sensation in my lower extremities.โ€‚I likened it to a release ofโ€‚a tight muscles or constriction blocking the energy in this region of the spine.โ€‚
  • Generally overall I am experiencing a softening of tension through my whole body with increased sense of relaxation and wellbeing.โ€‚

For all these benefits I am experiencing I would recommend trying an accupressure mat.โ€‚Yes it may be uncomfortable for the first few days, however, that quickly disappears and the benefits outweigh the initial discomfort.โ€‚

Tips to Achieving Your Goals Somatically

Reflection of yin and yang balance (feminine and masculine energies)

Yesterday I shared an exercise to introduce a connection to mindful intention and action in one’s personal environment.โ€‚It is the first tip of 31 created to cultivate somatic and mindful awareness.โ€‚

In 2013 I wrote a little booklet to support an introduction for practicing techniques to ground and expand mindful connection using focused attention on the integration of intention with action. The purpose of these tips is to cultivate conscious awareness.โ€‚One way you can bring your goals into reality is to consider these daily awareness techniques and actions to define your intention. Bring them alive by making time to manifest physical change in your living/working space. ย It takes a few minutes a day.ย  Designed for slowing down and consciously pausing to reflect, notice and take actions. It is for creating your dreams and taking actions to make them happen that combines mindfulness and physical action to create your space of ‘success’. ย Each day for 31 days there is a short pattern or exercise to integrate in one’s environment to support change and connection!

Here is the second tip on day two for you to investigate and experience.โ€‚Each January I follow this program to remind myself and reconnect to my space and things with intention and mindfulness.โ€‚

Here is a pdf of exercise 2 for your enjoyment!โ€‚

Leave a comment and share back how this exercise was for you. For me I felt pleased after doing this task that I have done numerous times before with no sense of joy, rather felt effort previously.โ€‚The difference was the connection to my intention and purpose.โ€‚It change the inner vibration in the action that began with a different mindset.โ€‚My mind was refocused and the thought stories were of a higher vibration.โ€‚

Celebrating Life in ‘2024’

This post is the first in a while.โ€‚The last one I posted focused upon the numerology meaning of 2024.โ€‚As I reread it I recognize my own focus of attention aligns with this interpretation.โ€‚The last half of 2023 had a focus upon defining the balance of material and spiritual wealth.โ€‚The last few decades has had a focus on the evolution of ego that began to transition from an elusive somatic experience into an obvious mindful perspective. โ€‚

What is the evolving focus for Renee in 2024 at the Learning Center for Inside Awareness for Healthy Living?

Defining humanness through somatic function

A strong propensity that created an unintended boundary in earlier years was a strong-willed action for not pursuing comparable modalities.โ€‚This meant choosing one main method for somatic integration and diving deep into the patterns.โ€‚Rather than entering into somatic confusion by trying many similar methods the only consideration for pursuit was a compatible functionally focused method that was an identifiable missing link.โ€‚For example it is well known among Feldenkrais Practitioners that Moshe Feldenkrais was a poor communicator.โ€‚Hence, there was a gap in speaking and listening skills for me.โ€‚Rather than pursuing comparable movement modalities my focus was on integrating speaking and listening skills to create a fuller holistic experience between movement and expressed mindfulness. Starting in 2004 the modalities I mentored and personally practiced were contained and isolated from each other.โ€‚However in 2014 I began to relax and integrate them somatically.โ€‚In the past 10 years, the progress in personal transformation in others and myself has been identifiable.โ€ƒObserving these transformations has been rewarding.โ€‚With a focus of attention on integrating inner change with an intention to shift outer experiences requires an environment for retraining habitual learning.โ€‚A person needs to enter into an adventurous space for unlearning old behaviours while in the action of exploring new ones in a mindfulness state of expanding their awareness.โ€‚Rather than assimilating methods with an egocentric focus of attention the focus has been on functional mindfulness in day to day that defines humanness through somatic function.โ€‚The change in 2024 will reflect this somatic integration process.โ€‚The successful components of these years will be reflected in offerings.โ€‚

Some of the topics that will be added in 2024:

  • Reverse aging

Classes and workshops have been held in activity centers since the late 90’s.โ€‚These have been seasonally with no breaks which has offered the opportunity to work with aging personalities, communication and physical abilities.โ€‚Culturalization of aging has been a big proponent in the aged that has been intriguing.โ€‚This has been a low key focus these years that moved into the forefront in the last five years.โ€‚This topic will become a larger focus this coming year.

  • Cultural entrainment

In the 90’s entrainment was a focus of attention when entering into homes, offices and organizations to consult on spacial awareness and influences.โ€‚This awareness has expanded into its relationship in the minutia of all day to day functions.โ€‚This topic will become a larger focus this coming year.

  • Expansion

Requests for creating supportive development programs for training purposes, consulting and resolving conflict through empathy, to connect first before change versus compromise, has increased the depth energetically in the ethos this past year.โ€‚Expect to learn more about these offerings as they expand outward into other potent life areas such as institutions, corporations, organizations, groups.โ€‚Of course personal transformation materials will continue to grow in offerings for transformation to define humanness in somatic function.โ€‚ More growth this coming year.โ€‚

  • Turning the cultural definition of manifestation into an active vibration

A focus of attention for health and wellbeing that will dominate our 2024 expression will be upon the use of vibration in manifesting.โ€‚The purpose is to transition goal setting into an active expression versus an outside strategy.โ€‚The intention is integrating it into a mindful process versus demand.โ€‚This topic will become a larger focus this coming year.

An example is the first step I wrote in a manifestation booklet in 2013 and still use personally now.โ€‚Each January since I follow this program to reconnect to my space and things with intention and mindfulness.โ€‚Here is an example:

Commitment to choices

The birth experience between my son and I was the incentive for me to pause, take stock and step outside of the herd mentality. It wasn’t out of personal philosophy, rather inquiry and wanting to make the best choices versus following along just because it was what everyone did. It may not have been the most obvious daring action I ever took, but it was the most inwardly daring thing I ever did. I didn’t seek support through mom’s and babe groups due to being to open energetically after the birth, it would have been over stimulating. Instead, I sought out different practices that could help bring balance and have calming influences. It came down to two choices that strongly resonated with me. These choices were the traditional Iyengar Hatha Yoga being offered through the downtown YMCA and the Mindfulness Meditation being offered at the Shambhala Centre in Market Square.

Having a toddler and expecting a second I could only manage one of those two at that time. I chose mindful meditation practice as it had an inward focus of attention to expand connection in time and space. I experienced an inner disconnect in the yoga practice as my experience of it was that it was outwardly focused through how it was directed. At that time one practice had less focus on self-image, and right and wrong ways of doing things which meant one was inquiry and personal observation. What it triggered though was a longing for a structured retreat to experience deeper inner connection. I chose my children.

My devotion to my kids brought about teachings far greater than any other pursuit I may have longer for. I wasn’t sure why at the time, but I kept telling the universe that I needed the teacher to come to me, I needed the teaching in a language I understand, I needed the teacher to have years of integration in what they offer, and I needed the teaching in a way that can include my care for my kids. In checking back into this experience, it is with recognition that the universe manifested exactly what I declared I needed.

Two educational methods presented themselves, one after the other that were stripped of all dogma and focused upon the practical steps to achieve and tap into the glimpse of life connection that was first identified in mindful meditation. Both these methods came via people immersed in the practices since the 1940’s or earlier. For me, right or wrong, they were the western version of the oral history presented earlier of another culture’s philosophy. The difference for me is that they presented as living actions I could take to navigate life in real time events yet develop the bridge for connecting from the inside out. How? Through steps that bypass attachments to outside influences. The practice is on the inside of what is happening and less on outside ego stimulus. Don’t get me wrong, my belief is we need ego and that it is being used to misguide society. These two educational models, of course, are Nonviolent Communication and Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education. I practiced these two methods in the same structure I would have practiced the mediation that led me to them. The difference is that the practice is included in day-to-day life needs and wasn’t a separation from life. It was a practical daily practice.

Big obstacles were purposely put in my way, yet it was meaningful enough to fight for. For example, the first segment of the Feldenkrais training was on Salts Spring. Instead of staying on the island I travelled each day after getting little ones ready for school and returning to pick them up to make dinner. Luckily the remaining four years were presented eight blocks from our home. More ease greater challenges. We walked to school together and they could come and be apart of the training after school. It was the same with NVC, the intensives were local where I was able to manage both needs, participation, and children. I realize I have learned that if something is meaningful enough it’s worth it and I am recognizing the power of manifestation. The teacher came to my doorstep with deep roots to model the behaviour. They were who they said they were. Ha, I no longer want to go into the immersive experience of self connection as I believe that has occurred, I am inspired though to expand this concept of manifestation. One of the areas that I hope to explore this in is the arena of personal relationships. Of course, it is not something I would share as my commitment would be to the other party in this equation. I do believe it would radiate outwardly though in each of our lives in a way that demonstrates manifestation. It would be evident. I no longer have the distraction of children as I have left home! They left first and forced me to leave. However, manifestation in other life areas will be a focus for conversing on.

I cannot emphasize enough the art of personal committed practice that deepens inner connection. It’s a game changer. It could just change what’s going on in the world as we see it now.

Leading through the heart versus conflict with passionate connections

A role model that that crossed my path I am grateful for is someone who demonstrated a quality of organic growth and success that is heart centered. It is someone I admire from afar and who knows of me from a distance due to her sister sharing the same unusually named practice as I. (Feldenkrais) After joining the Gettin Higher Choir I learned more of her story and observed how she was admired.

My interpretation of this is that she is one of the original innovative members behind the growth and development of Hollyhock Learning Center on Cortes Island and that she moved to Victoria for personal reasons. She had a passion for African music and began a small choir that started with six members. She had connected to music while on Cortes where she learned she could sing after being told throughout her childhood she couldnโ€™t. It seems sharing music through song with others who also thought they couldnโ€™t sing became her passion. When I joined the choir there were upwards of 600 members. By then she had a co-director and together they began teaching others how to direct community choirs in their style of engaging choir members to sing. People from around the world came to Victoria specifically for this learning and connection.

It was far more than singing that emerged from this venture as Shivon was introduced to a small village in Africa by someone from that village that no longer had any amenities. A fundraiser was created and she herself travelled to observe and present some needed help to this community. It turned into a long-term relationship where a well was drilled for potable water, a school and medical center were built, the kids were fed a meal daily, a fruit orchard planted, and a market was re-created through the proceeds of a yearly fundraiser. This expanded to embrace other villages through these fundraisers that included the newly trained community choir directors sponsoring a village. Community by community networking.

Along with a yearly fundraiser for Africa, Shivon, Denis, and the choir also did a yearly fundraiser for West Coast teenagers to sponsor a program to get them outdoors to experience survival training for self-confidence and esteem building. The choir had many activist type members, and a connection was made to invite the choir to sing at many events. Prior to retiring from the choir, I heard that she was being asked to teach leading from the heart through song to stimulate activists into an authentic experience of leading from the heart versus conflict. She and Denis have stepped down from the choir now and passed it on. What I experienced through my short engagement with Shivon, Denis and this choir is that the leadership was authentic, and it grew organically. As it grew it seemed it was from the inside out. There wasnโ€™t any false self imagery it seemed, and the engagement spoke for itself. There were no attachments to the rich and famous, however some were invited to partner as guests of the fundraisers where friendships were created. I share this admiration of a role model as this is the only one, I have come across that reflects growth and success that is natural and organic. Its abundance didnโ€™t seem to be forced but was a force. This is the essence I hold in my heart when it comes to coaching in all situations from leadership in business, family dynamics, educational models, institutions, and love relationships. Itโ€™s transferable.

Outsmarting a gas lighter

One of the hardest behaviours to observe in coaching is witnessing someone attached to another for what they can get from them rather than what they can contribute. I have noticed that when the focus is not on creating an authentic connection its purpose is on creating a disconnection inside the others person’s mind where they hope to receive some personal gain. Sometimes it’s for competition as they don’t want to see the other succeed, or to gain monetarily and receive support, or simply not wanting to be abandoned in whatever addictions they share. Only a few times I have witnessed it be from hatred and rage or a belief the other person is not smart or good enough. Qualities that cannot be hidden from an empath.

I have witnessed gaslighting someone is never for the qualities of love like appreciation, respect, or empathy. It seems that once the cycle starts it quickly turns into entitlement or ownership of the other. People doing the gaslighting don’t get how these controlling behaviours are easily identifiable and visibly recognizable, especially by an empath. It’s felt emotionally by the person they are gaslighting however witnesses can easily observe the mental manipulation. The gaslighting is like mind control, or a false reality. It is very destructive and harmful. In some situationships it can last for years where the experiences become dark, lonely, and painful. The person on the receiving end either doesn’t seem to recognize it at first or they believe it will change.

Most people don’t go into relationships with the expectation to be on the receiving end of this type of behaviour so can be naive to it. An element of human conditioning is to trust. Initially a common reaction to it is shock, surprise, freezing or fighting back. Once the behaviour is habituated it seems to be internalized by the receiver where is transforms into feelings and damaging beliefs related to self-worth. Regardless of these fight, flight or freeze reactions they can be purposely stimulated for controlling the actions of someone to stop them from moving forward and acting. Over time the person being manipulated is noticeably drained, stressed, angry or depressed and often will seek artificial stimulants to cope.

Often the person on the receiving end of this manipulative behaviour will believe there is something wrong with them from the feelings that are stimulated by the gas lighter. Gas lighting often interferes with the receiverโ€™s connection to what is meaningful and their values by creating doubts. Long-term reactions to this are a lack of self-esteem, self-value, and confidence. The joy for me in these over-the-top situationships has been integrating somatic learning models that cannot be manipulated due to the very nature of focusing on connecting to what is meaningful in the moment – oneโ€™s values. There is no focus of attention on someone speaking for another, being the teacher, therapist, or authority. Each learns how to speak for only themselves and listen without correction or convincing the other parties. There is no focus on telling the story to ascertain who is right and who is wrong. The key is to process the story using practical steps to integrate skills on how to communicate and accept differences where all parties are valued equally. I would have loved to have grown up in this type of cultural experience, however the gift of not living it became the purpose for exploring it and making discoveries for the past three decades.
