Re-evaluating lifestyles: Wild ‘green juice’

Purple Dead Nettle

I use wild greens as an alternative to wheat grass juice to begin the day’s food journey.  As the sun begins to have some heat to it this chickweed pictured above will decline.  There will be other greens to replace it  such as dandelion greens,  and Purple Dead Nettle  pictured here.  What I am observing is that the wild greens create a dark green juice than store bought grass,  celery and parsley.  It’s also yard to glass meaning it has fuller life essence.

Re-evaluating lifestyles

Horseradish

Thankful now to have begun creating fire cider brew for immune boosting properties and in the process  (due to over riced horseradish & shipped in from overseas & arriving soft), began growing it. Was able to break into 5 pots last fall and hope to get them in the ground soon – here is a great recipe for fire cider I posted on my nature blog – https://livingnatureslove.blog/2018/09/30/fire-cider-immune-booster-recipe

Strong natural disinfectant with citrus and vinegar

In 2018 I began fermenting apple cider vinegar from scratch.  When it was ready I decided to infuse it with the orange, grapefruit and lemon peels that I was collecting.  You will recognize these citrus fruits as additives in your store purchased cleaners as  their oils they are  a powerful antiseptic.  They smell good too.

You can use white vinegar to infuse with  your fresh citrus peels rather than making apple cider vinegar from scratch.  It only takes a few days to draw the oils out of the peels.

Once infused it doesn’t take much to make a natural antiseptic spray cleaner.  I use just under a one part of infused vinegar to 4 parts water (if using apple cider vinegar and washing walls, I use less vinegar).

Use baking soda as a scrub for tough marks, grease and spills.  You will be surprised at how clean surfaces become.  Pause to check in as you may notice that the surroundings have a different feel to them.  Both baking soda and salt are softening agents and can be used to soften water.  This translates into the surroundings too.  Your body is  in more aligned with natural elements and opens or softens with them while harsh chemicals can attach your senses,  cause allergies and mood swings.  I have personally noticed that I enjoy being in my environment more and that creating my own cleaners from household products is grounding and satisfying.

Once you begin to use these products you may find them easier and cheaper to use eliminating the need for costly cleaners.

Vinegar-Currently I recommend that you buy from local grocery stores as the prices have been inflated on-line.

Simple natural care suggestions for self & your surroundings

In earlier posts I shared some ways for physical  self-care through boosting your immune system , cleansing with sea – salt and the importance of eating  living food. Now here is a focus on self care for your environment.

Energy follows focus of attention which can be influenced by scent, sound, flavour, vision & feeling

With Feldenkrais I find the focus of attention to be upon the motivation point of action in functional movement while, Nonviolent Communication has been upon the motivation point of interpretation and interaction.

An important stimulant to one’s action that is often overlooked is the environment.

In Feldenkrais I teach my students that their soft tissue, muscles, etc., creates the environment for their bones.

In coaching I teach my students that their language & listening skills creates the environment for their relationships.

Reading the surroundings of ones lifestyle I teach my students its illusive effects on mental, emotional, spiritual and physical responses.

I have learned that ones focus of attention  creates the intention for an action and that this includes unconscious and conscious stimulus.  Recently I sent a  gift set of essential oils to someone special to support their senses and to use for cleansing.  Typically they are used in massage oils, aromatherapy blends and perfumes, however they can be used in body and environmental sprays.

The essential oil that is the most versatile for my use is lavender. The Romans named the plant after washing (lava is to wash).  They used it as an antiseptic.   I combine it with water to spray the environment for cleansing and I spray my head for clarity if I have too much mental heat from stress.

Other oils in the set that are effective are sweet orange, tea tree, eucalyptus, peppermint and lemon grass.  They can also be added to  a rinse for face or hair, to bath water  and to a spray bottle with water to use as a spray or added to your existing products.  Another way I enjoy using them is to put a few drops on a cotton ball to inhale or on a piece of lava or stone.

  • Sweet orange is an ideal overall mood enhancer and relaxant. It has a  balancing effect on the mind and body.
  • Lemongrass kills germs and  is used for cough, achy joints, fever, the common cold, and exhaustion. It can be also used as a mild astringent
  • Peppermint has anti-microbial properties and is us used as a cleaning solvent to sanitize and deodorize the environment.  As a disinfectant  it can eliminate bugs in the home and acts as an effective insect repellent.
  • Tea Tree has antiseptic qualities and  can be used for sanitizing hands.
  • Eucalyptus supports the respiratory system and soothes physical discomforts. It is anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and a  decongestant.

Once you add essential oil to your environment pause and notice any changes.  Specifically in how you feel.

Hitting the food re-set button

Hitting a food re-set button began a number of years ago for me while in the midst of a transition and being in the complete unknown.  I was standing on a blank canvas while coming down with a seasonal cold.

Unbeknownst to me a simple self-question began a new/old journey.  A journey that was motivated in early childhood, separated from in a later childhood lifestyle change only to return with being a new empty-nester.

I am thankful that my focus of attention unconsciously shifted to meaningful connections in the environment in new-ish ways and that I wasn’t distracted by seeking meaning in other ways.

These past years has dissolved the dysfunction of eating rules, diet labels and the dominant destructive self-abuse has stopped.  Curiosity and exploration took its place.  It happened without a plan and was a natural progression resulting from my focus of attention being distracted by this study of eating edibles weeds and making personal remedies/products from what was growing in the surrounding  community.

How has my life changed from this organic re-set button?

  1. Natural weight loss
    • thru eating what was available seasonally and slowly shifting to living foods
  2. Seasonal & food directed intermittent fasting routine increases physical, mental and emotional functions
    • the way of eating has shifted how and when eating that follows a natural body rhythm increasing body part functions
    • no longer hunger driven as body parts are  independently  receiving their individual nutritional needs
  3. Increased sensing
    • inner felt-senses increased  to the point of when ingesting food and drinks being able to notice different body parts responding
    • inner felt-sense of posture and postural transitions increased
  4. Enhanced flexibility
    • increase of flexibility to do daily functions
    • enhanced emotional states and increased resilience
  5. Simplified eating plan
    • reduction in amounts
    • increase in healthy food choices
    • loss of cravings
    • less compulsiveness in food choices when shopping to the point of no desires for common foods of the past
    • no fast food
    • increase in preparing own recipes
  6. Growing love of food
    • eating is no longer a chore, feared or something to satisfy body cravings
    • food has become an appreciative relationship of giving and receiving
  7. Education
    • foods for increased function
    • foods for healing
    • foods for natural remedies, products and growing
    • recipes
    • starting cultures and maintaining them
  8. Interplay of food and myself  has become a beautiful part of day to day living and a joyful part of life
    • fear, emptiness and hopelessness has turned into a interactive joyful connection
    • becoming grounded
    • becoming appreciative for the environment

Eating for the body replaces mental dominance over body & food

Over these past few years the interaction of experiencing living foods has reduced fear and increased self-confidence in trusting myself by increasing the connection between body and food and lessening the dominance of mental body over food  and body.

Living food engages interplay where natural is relevant

Now while outside in the yard or surrounding community nature is relevant and interacts with me.  My focus has shifted that now includes nature in my own perception of myself. A feeling of oneness,   In the past this would be an experience only after a mindful meditation retreat, however now this integration has resulted in it being the common experience.  So much so that it is evident immediately when it is absent.  It is a missing link in my physical, mental and emotional sensation.

It’s time to hit the reset button to ways of being.  Nature is living and interacts with us.  We just need to listen.

What can you do to start your own somatic food experience?

Surprised by spontaneous appreciation for meal matched a level of spiritual connection

Cutting sourdough, spreading with humus and pouring a bowl of bone-broth goodness, I sensed excitement and appreciation growing.  A smile formed while eating that grew to a level of appreciation I felt  bursting out with love.  I had to pause and acknowledge this experience.  Along with it I observed a thought cloud pass through my mind comparing this love experience and how it surpassed any love I have ever had for a partner.  My smile grew even bigger as I realized that my love in partnership could increase this much too.  Once feeling it, it becomes increasingly possible.  For me, this experience is the equalizer of any fear that may influence rub off on me  as we travel through current events.

Each of these simple foods were made from scratch with healthy ingredients and some cultured from home.  For example the sourdough was started a year ago and carried forward by adding new ingredients to the culture with each loaf made since then.   Every two or so days this sourdough has been handled by myself so the energy of it lacks any other influence.  For me this means that all the love and attention over the year is now included in my meal.  It is such a healing experience!

The humus is packed with healthy ingredients including black garlic fermented at home.

I like to blog about natural sources of food for health and well -being.  Here is an article  I wrote about  fermenting blank garlic .

The bone broth was stared with fresh baby yellow dock plants picked in the morning.  The leaves and roots of this plant are healthy especially for detoxing.  Right now the best thing we can do is eat healthy foods that support an action of detoxing our system to stay healthy.

Have you considered your food choices and how they determine your state of well-being mentally, emotionally and physically?
Have you considered who has handled the food you are about to put into your mouth?
The best way to create healing experiences with food is to interact with it either by growing it and handling it until it reaches your table or by tuning in to it and clearing it prior to eating it?

Chakra alter for balancing

Alter reflecting chakras for balance

I opened a new and specific alter for balancing my energy centers and connecting to the earth below for grounding and sky above for spaciousness.

Faced with the unknown of these days ahead this alter represents an intention to connect with self to balance and reclaim my state of well-being.  Susceptible to others states of being this action will be a reminder to find my center and not be carried away by others reactions.

How will you find your center?
