January’s New Moon signalled in new beginnings and a fresh start while the 5th phase of 2021 first earth/moon rotation cycle reflects, It is done!” The intentions experienced on the New Moon are now moving into the active phase. This is true whether one consciously set their intentions on the New Moon or not. The seeds were sown regardless of one’s focus of attention. The seeds of course are one’s focus of attention! Where was yours at the beginning of January?

Morality & Immunity in 2020

In the first winter months of 2020 I came down with an illness that one of my mates had. I had never heard of COVID so had no references for it’s symptoms. I did know that my immunity was strong and it easily passed. So I thought. Some time later a student who traveled outside the country booked a coaching session and came even though they were ill. Within two days it was back! This time it hit harder and I believe it was due to a lower immunity from the first go around.

Luckily for me the years practicing and mentoring Feldenkrais® made my journey through this somewhat smoother. Whatever I had was affecting my ability to take a breathe. One evening standing and leaning against the counter while focusing on my breathing patterns I realized I may never see my kids again. This was before COVID and restrictions. It was in my chest and interfering with the compulsion to organize and stimulate breathing contractions. This function seemed to have a gap and my brain wasn’t connecting to it somehow. In that instant I felt the presence of two reactions hovering. Panic and calm and steady. I choose calm and steady as I mentally reassured myself I had been training to breathe since 2004. I began to do Feldenkrais Awareness through Movement® standing there. Small supported micro-movements to stimulate my chest cavity bones. I knew I had to get my ribs, spine, shoulders, head and pelvis moving in order to get a natural pumping action to reverse the typical muscular locking that happens when one panics. Luckily for me the movement pattern was familiar and soon it calmed the survival instinct that usually takes over and becomes rigid when it kicks in. It only took a few movements before the gap I was experiencing passed and the breathing muscles fired back up. This happened a few more times after heavy bouts of coughing, yet after that first experience of directing focus on micro-movements they easily passed.

Having this ability to choose in that moment when there was a gap in the inclination to take a breathe was profound for me. It was my living example of changes I had seen in my students over the years when their breathing became fuller through increased use of their moving parts. Rigidity or holding becomes a habit that one isn’t aware of over time.

This experience brought up celebration and regret. The celebration was the living experience itself that demonstrated to me the benefits of learning methods I had been devoted to for years. The regret was the realization that at any moment something could happen quickly without being able to connect with my children. Just after these recognitions more news came out about COVID. This news added to stimulating that grief button over and over as winter turned into spring and spring into summer. I have one child living out of province which increased the grief.

By fall of 2020 I started to come out of the hangover of unresolved parenting issues that engulfed me after my own morality slapped me across the face earlier in the year. Two streams of experience co-existed for me in 2020. Unlike most references to 2020 I hear, I can share that I found a deeper joy, playfulness and beauty in 2020. I fell passionately in love with life and desire for it in its simplest experience. This was 2019’s dream, however I could never imagined it would come into being in the way that it did.

The grief process healed my parental guilt and transitioned personal reactions to a softer experience. Now there is space to have a choice to not attach to actions creating conflicted states. The grief process has always had an outcome similar to a mindfulness meditation experience for me. This means I have come away from 2020 with more autonomy increasing interdependent relationships with my young adult children. I hoped to be modeling interdependent relationships for my kids, however I hadn’t anticipated it would be realized through broken heartedness over some circumstance outside of my control!

Back in the emerging spring of 2020 I made a commitment to myself after the second bout of whatever it was I was experiencing. I made a strong commitment to increase my immunity. I unpacked some old strategies I had taken in the early 2000’s when I was experiencing symptoms of cancer. I reintroduced some of these valuable actions and introduced more. The outcome has been more than I could hope for.

There have been so many valuable lessons in 2020 that have the potential to increase the quality of living life now in 2021.

    • eating plan with focus on nutrition for separate body parts
    • infrared-saunas for detox and toning soft tissue
    • infrared light sessions for detox and toning soft tissue
    • skin brushing for lymph and skin support
    • rebounding for lymph support
    • pulling oil through teeth for detox

1st egg on 1st New Moon of 2021
  • increased connection to self and life
    • increased growing of sprouts, mushrooms and ferments
    • increased preparing foods from home
    • introduced chicks in early fall to explore home-grown eggs
  • increase in awareness of personal value needs & less tolerance of grey areas
    • seeing students and having roommates during COVID times has increased awareness of how meeting each others needs is not a primary focus in co-existing
    • 2020 has ended in a new habit of being committed to honestly expressing all needs on issues, no matter how small, to get equal and fair contribution to the wellness for all

2020 has ended with times of running, jumping and laughing with the chickens and of losing sleep over students or roommates introducing the COVID experience. It definitely has refocused attention on what is important to life.

Creativity through right-brain activities, such as art, crafts, writing, music and walking in nature, can turn ones illusive longing into obvious statements before left-brain goal planning even begins.  Leadership  through a right-brain activity can tap into all bodies of function creating a healthier balanced approach.

Activating goals this way (by integration of all bodies of human function) can create a living force and increase one’s will to achieve them.  Integration of all bodies of human function includes a focus of attention equally on the physical, cultural, perceptual, emotional and mental bodies.

Harnessing the mental thinking mind to give it guidance can support a fuller wholesome experience.  The difference is that the creative process in included versus simply engaging logic for figuring out strategies or solutions.  More on how the a dominant focus on the mental mind can influence self-judgement below.

Resolution statements taps only into your mental body.  This mental body has been culturally educated to respond to the world through the following reactions:

What this means for you for becoming the change you want to be

Resolution statements activated from the left-brain may focus on short-term goals and not lead to a lasting change that integrates into long-term lifestyle changes.  Adding right-brain activities can lead to a fuller integration leading to long-term lifestyle changes.  A focus only on the left-brain mental body can be its own driving force of single-mindedness that lacks balance and support for all functioning systems.  This approach has effort and can be controlling.  It lacks embodiment and eventually may become the source of depression.

Why?  Change declarations from thought function may only be influenced by outside stimulus like statements beginning with I should, or you should, that are based upon outside self-image and trends.  Long lasting and life-enriching change comes from the inside and goes beyond self-image and stimulus.  Logic of the left-brain is focused upon outside solutions and it is not an inside experience.   Meaningful change grows through the what if’s in a system of open exploration and not through a closed system of I/you should and should nots.

How to begin explore change verses forcing change through concepts

 Becoming the Master Creator in your 2021 experience

The steps of turning Intentions into Goals begins with exploring a vision of 2021.  It is then followed by noticing the illusive four walls of experience created by our seasons; fall, winter, spring and summer.  This connection to intention can then easily be turned into a doable guided pattern incorporating universal values, characteristics and qualities in a novel and uncluttered way creating new habits through the months and seasons.  The ease of learning is integrated through the experience from a simple guided pattern.  Awareness through creation using intention before action.

Turning intentions into doable goals in 5 easy, integrative steps

There are 5 fun and easy steps to activating the integration of intention and action in a meaningful way using a novel pattern to stimulate right and left brain functions with activities that can create life-enriching experiences and relationships.   As each step can be life-changing and integrative commit to spend time on each step before moving to the next one.  Direction suggestions will be given for each step.

Step #1 – The Foundation

Book time with yourself to focus your attention through your creative nature.  This step can be a private experience in your own space or shared with a friend group or spent privately with a mentor or coach.  It will take up to two hours to lay out the image with additional time to gather materials beforehand.  This initial step will be stimulating.  Let it digest for a minimum of three days before moving to step two.

What is stopping you from moving to a life of more joy?

The thinker

  • If you hesitate as you believe you are not creative, go beyond this thought and gather together some magazines, glue, scissors and some paper.   Create a collage mixing pictures and words that speak to you.
  • If you tell yourself you are dominantly a thinker, go beyond this thought and gather up some of your favorite magazines, glue, scissors and some paper.  Create a collage using words and include pictures that speak to you.
  • If you cannot devote this time to  be adventuresome and connect to  yourself and growth, pause and make a commitment and do it anyhow.  This is as important as eating, sleeping, and socializing, etc.  Perhaps even more important as it is the point of clarity and balance in  our natures.  It is invaluable learning and guidance that comes from  within.

    • Let this forest bath of smells, sounds & movement calm and slow down your 5 bodies to connect to your inner desires for the coming year
    • Listening inside is a place one can go in nature easily when slowing down to create the space for it. Listening from inside can give you your best guidance.  Use this time to become quiet and let your inner desires be heard.  Remember to make notes afterwards so this experience isn’t fleeting.

2021 in numerology is a number 5

2021 becomes 221

2 + 2  + 1 = 5

What does this mean personally and as a society in this philosophy?

  • 2021

Twenty, twenty was the start of a new decade and when calculated in numerology 2020 becomes the number four.  Now a year later as we enter 2021 it becomes a number 5 with numerological calculations.   

Number five is is exactly what we need to follow 2020.  It represents a pivotal change that has already begun emerging in our experiences this fall   A five is about being in the present moment, exploring and being adventurous.  This number 5 experience is a perfect one to follow 2020.       The number four of 2020 was all about a new operating code, 20/20 vision and 4 walls.  Four walls in numerology is the metaphoric home we experience personally and collectively. Wow, how dead on has this been for 2020?

Twenty, twenty-one is a Feldenkrais® Practitioners favorite type of metaphor as the influence in this somatic learning practice is the same essence as in a number five experience.  In Feldenkrais ones focus is upon cultivating inner awareness  by tapping into one’s five senses to hone one’s qualities of  spontaneity and adaptability.  The purpose is  to thrive in different environments and social situations.  A number five’s qualities also are spontaneous and adaptable for thriving in different environments and social situations, and it reflects the five senses.

This is a Master number and represents change and accomplishment.   I personally love number 5 addresses as they reflect creativity,  fun and adventure versus the hard work  that #4 reflects.  This is a welcome sign for this coming year as the global societal shift continues.  Number 5 manifests dreams and turns them into reality  Thankfully the focus of attention of #5 is on humanity!

2021 has huge potential for building  new ways of exploring this new era signaled in during  2020 & experienced globally

The focus on humanities four walls of 2020 is now shifting onto humanity itself and the focus of society’s welfare is now expanding into creation.  The universally felt life changing shift in lifestyle and direction that began in 2020  is the new journey forward and brick and mortar walls will be changed forever.

The number four experience of 2020 has been true to its essence of  hard work. Now this emerging #5 essence is creating upon this new foundation with less effort.

Support the #5 influence needs  is structure

Number 5’s need the support of structure in order to accomplish their vision and new projects.  The energies of a #5 are fun and adventure and the potential is to start to many overlapping projects reducing the likelihood of completing them.  This would be a good time to consider creating a plan for the coming year to create a focal point for being successful.  There can be ease  through goals and value planning that is laid out in a guided pattern for easier integration and do-ability in a pattern of consciousness building that taps into what one longs to create.
