Kids – Teaching Labyrinth

Contemplative Style Learning

Renee Lindstrom shares Contemplative Labyrinth workshops with children, pre-teens and teens in community schools that are designed to teach them to slow down and cut outside distractions to make better choices.

A labyrinth is a wonderful walking tool for slowing down to check in and connect to what is important.  An intelligent mindful and somatic experience to make sense of ones emotions and feelings.

These children and young teens explore walking a labyrinth pathway into the center and out again that mirrors a behavior of checking in first to notice what is alive inside before acting out randomly.  After introducing a labyrinth,  exercises can be added designed to develop an inner feeling vocabulary that can be calming.  Having a feelings literacy and encourage  mindfulness before actions.

These students can learn skills and techniques to share in their communities and support their developing leadership!.

Working with a group of high school students from grade 9 to 12 the response from one student was that she enjoyed the fact that all grades began working together and that there was no grade barriers!
