Feldenkrais® Method of Somatic Movement is designed for the participant to focus their attention on their own patterns of movement in a way to increase range of motion, while simultaneously increasing clarity and connection.
A principle of Feldenkrais® is based upon the understanding that no two people have the same movement postures and that one movement pattern solution is not going to meet the needs of individuals. This method focuses on each person individually and is attentive to their unique movement postures.
Witnessing lifestyle changes in those experiencing Functional® Integrations and Awareness through Movement® lessons, since Renee’s certification in 2007, has demonstrated its value to higher function and understanding. It has also proved itself to be complementary to the focus of Inside Awarenesses lifestyle programs designed to live intentionally in an experience of heighten functioning; physically, mentally, emotionally, and culturally. At Inside Awareness we continue to discover how the past of one’s education is the filter for one’s present experience. Inside Awareness programs explore how to change this filter through one’s current discovery and integration of new patterns. The intention is to shift an old, and in many cases, a disabling perspective. This motivation has led to the discovery of a connection to heightened function and soul experience. When one’s actions are through an increased clarity of function it seems there is an experience of openness inside that connects to life in a broader sense. Our method’s at Inside Awareness focus on present action and influences. Our speciality is listening to spoken word influences and dogma to free up any distraction they create to learning new movement behaviours. Dogma can get in the way of learning as it can dominate one’s belief system and add blocks to open learning experiences. . .
Enjoy Feldenkrais® two ways
1st Way
Awareness thru Movement®
Awareness Through Movement® (ATM) lessons are taught to groups or individuals using a sequence of gentle movements. Lessons are experienced on hard surfaces such as the floor or chair. After the lesson, you’ll be asked to notice what changes you perceive. Many experience deep relaxation — and lightness — in addition to reduction of pain and stress, with improved range of motion, balance, and posture.
2nd Way
Functional® Integration
Functional Integration® (FI) lessons are taught to individuals, and are especially suited for those who have specific movement difficulties or seek performance improvement. Dress comfortably for movement. Your lessons may begin with you sitting or lying on a special low, padded table. The Feldenkrais® Practitioner guides you by communicating through a gentle, listening touch and movement, as well as with words.
In both ATM and FI lessons, you will become more aware of how you move in habitual ways. Each lesson helps you to explore alternatives that you might not have thought of otherwise. Through increased awareness, you learn to move with minimal effort and maximum efficiency. As Moshe Feldenkrais said,
“Together we can make the impossible, possible; the possible, easy; and the easy, elegant.”
Moshe Feldenkrais
The only way to change is action
