More about Yellow in Design

Yellow

InYellow China yellow was the color of the emperor as it depicted the center of the universe and it is often used to contrast black to complement the yin and yang of these two colors.  Their theory is yellow arises out of black as earth arises out of the dark waters, yin and yang.

Common psychological effects are of hope and optimism.  It is a warming and stimulating color that often is associated with happiness and drawing out intellect.  A mid-range yellow palette  supports grounding and stability.

In 5 element theory the palette of yellow has a range considered the fire element and a range considered the earth element.  The fire element of yellows range from bright yellow to the gold of the emperors cloths while the earth range is light yellow and ochre shades of yellow.

The palette range of yellow has different cultural associations, such as dark yellows the color of the sun and happiness and the shade of sulfur as deceitful and evil.    Therefore it is important that in your home or business that the palette chosen is one that is appealing to you!
